Mezzanine C.I.P. Skid Retrofit Analysis

A brewing company required a retrofit analysis of an existing steel supported concrete mezzanine deck in order to support a new C.I.P. equipment skid. Additionally, existing openings in the concrete deck were to be sealed which required the design of additional deck framing supports and concrete filler slab.


For the structural analysis, our engineering team created a math model of the steel mezzanine and concrete deck and imposed existing/new equipment and structure self-weight gravity loads as well as seismic lateral loads in accordance with the California Building Code. Concrete diaphragm action was assumed via the concrete deck. Existing steel x-bracing which had since been removed from the structure to accommodate new equipment below the deck was replaced with new lateral bracing which would minimally impede the existing equipment, conduit, piping, lighting and personnel traffic below the mezzanine deck.

Structural calculations and drawings for the required modifications were produced and submitted, construction specifications were issued and contractor bids were reviewed for general compliance with the construction documents.
