September 2010 Project:

Elevated Revolving Drum Riser
Elevated Revolving Drum Riser

Our client requested we evaluate the main load-bearing mechanical and structural components for this Elevated Revolving Drum Riser system. The system contained both Aluminum and Steel elements that were both welded and pinned together to allow for multiple degrees of rotation. The whole system can move on the stage, raise the drummer platform, and rotate the trummer about two axies.


In order to analyze the structural adequacy of the system, the supporting frame assembly, lift arms, pivot arms, outer and inner revolving circular riser components were modeled in RISA-3D. Several models were created to simulate the unit in varying extreme positions of elevation and rotation. Member stresses, forces, and connections were evaluated and structural adequacy determined based on the allowable limits of the materials.
